Profits are up by 269 times! How Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant pulled out of a long dive to profitable contracts?
The great prospects are opening before Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant. Over the past two years, the profits of the enterprise have risen by 269 times. The plant witnessed this surprising economic effect after a change of ownership. The orders are scheduled to the middle of the following year, and the plant is accepting new employees from all over the country.
35 plants and scientific research institutes from Moscow to Samara. Technodinamika Holding is one of the leading Russian enterprises in aerospace industry. Now Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant is among its partners. During the recent aviation exhibition in Moscow, two enterprises signed an agreement for joint performance of helicopter repair and upgrade.
Pavel Sluchak, General Director of Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant: “Cooperation with Technodinamika Holding will allow us to increase the production level through their orders. They will place orders for repair & upgrade, as well as engage our specialists for aftersale maintenance of helicopters”.
Over a dozen of aircraft, both civil and military, are parked in the plant hangar for repair. The enterprise is pulling out of a long and dramatic dive. A year ago, the plant was basically on the verge of a shutdown without any perspectives for development. However, the Presidential Decision transferred the plant into the state ownership. Now the State Authority for Military Industry and Belspetsvneshtechnika (major shareholder) seek for new contracts and provide work for the plant’s staff.
Five helicopters have been already sent to the customers. Works on another five helicopters will be completed until the end of the year. New orders are coming to the plant from all over the world: Mexico, Russia and other countries. In addition to Mi-8 and Mi-24, the plant mastered a repair of Mi-2 helicopter (one of the most widespread types in the world). No one of its employees would mind, if he has to work late or come to the plant on his day off.
This restart of the enterprise stopped the outflow of talented workers. Generally, it takes around 5 years to prepare a qualified specialist. Recently the plant has started to increase the number of its staff: from 400 to 600 workers. Today young specialists desire to stay at the enterprise after postgraduate job practice and extend their employment contracts.
The plant lies at the intersection of the main traffic arteries. Interest to this transport hub near the town of Bolbasovo will continue to grow. Reconstruction of the airfield is already in its final stages. Logistic complex handles more than 800 heavy transporters per month. The construction of the second large warehouse has already begun. By the aid of such logistics, the plant builds up a strategy for development.
Besides the helicopters, the plant is opening a new business area – maintenance of large aircraft. IL-76 aircraft was the first fruit in this sphere. The plant focuses on cargo aircraft because of its location near a major logistic center and a runway that can accept all types of aircraft.
Many new employees are coming to the enterprise from Lida, Kobrin and other cities. Last week, the plant welcomed nine new workers. Aircraft repair professionals are especially valued at the plant. Recently, a renewed dormitory has been opened for the employees, a few vacant rooms are still waiting for future engineers.
Bolbasovo is a former military town. Future of the aircraft repair plant is discussed in every family living there. The plant is a core enterprise for the town, so nobody is hiding the fact that the future of the local people depends on its future.
The plant has already formed the order portfolio of 2020 for six months in advance. Bolbasovo is waiting for another 15 helicopters to come for scheduled repair. Moreover, following the strategy of social sector development, the enterprise will soon start a construction of a new apartment building in the center of the town.
