The main aim of upgrade is to:
• Enhance technical characteristics and combat capabilities;
• Improve fuel distance and cross-country capability;
• Increase carried ammunition set;
• Reduce time required for combat vehicle reloading;
• Reduce the number of vehicles used for carrying ammunition;
• Enable leveling of the platform and turret stabilization when firing;
• Improve fire accuracy and grouping;
• Increase range and reliability of the combat vehicle radio communication;
• Replace obsolete vehicle chassis URAL-375;
• Mount the turret on the modern all-wheel-drive vehicle chassis MAZ-6317054;
• Mount racks for rockets storage and transportation on the chassis platform which enables combat vehicle to carry two salvos.
List of works on upgrade of the combat vehicle BМ–21:
• Dismounting of the combat vehicle turret and its units, mechanisms as well as mounting sets from URAL-375 chassis.
• Dismounting of the sets of ammunition racks from transloaders.
• Manufacture of MAZ-631705 vehicle chassis for mounting the turret.
• Works on overhaul (medium repair) on the turret, set of launching tubes, power supply unit, electric-power drive, sighting devices, units, mechanisms and pneumatic equipment.
• Manufacture of switching panels, accessories, sight bracket, electric-installation sets, gunner platform, mounting and fastening elements, covers, tents required for mounting the turret on MAZ-631705 chassis.
• Modification of the turret and its parts, units, mechanisms, devices, mounting sets, SPTA boxes and their mounting on MAZ-631705 chassis.
• Repair, modification and mounting of racks on the combat vehicle.
• Testing, alignment, functional checks.
• Trials of the combat vehicle.
